Overview
Contemporary Residence with Craft Detail
Aditraj-05 is a 4500 sq.ft residential bungalow in Ahmedabad designed to create spacious, light-filled living environments enriched by natural materials and custom woodwork. The project prioritizes vertical openness, tactile warmth, and seamless indoor-outdoor connection while maintaining functional clarity across living, dining, and private zones.
How to design a generous family home that feels cohesive without relying on heavy ornamentation?
Large residential bungalows often struggle with spatial fragmentation—rooms feel disconnected, circulation becomes labyrinthine, and design coherence gets lost across 4500 sq.ft. The challenge was creating visual and material continuity while accommodating diverse family needs: formal living, casual dining, prayer spaces, bedrooms, and outdoor connection—all without defaulting to decorative excess or losing spatial warmth.
Solution
The design employs double-height volumes in living areas to establish dramatic openness, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the plan. Wooden slatted screens and paneled partitions define zones without blocking sightlines, maintaining visual flow while providing privacy where needed. Custom italian marble flooring with geometric patterning anchors ground-level spaces, introducing craft detail and visual rhythm underfoot. Warm wood cladding—vertical slats, built-in cabinetry, ceiling panels—wraps key zones, creating tactile warmth and material consistency. Strategic greenery (indoor planters, outdoor landscaping visible through glazing) softens architectural edges. Neutral palettes in bedrooms and private areas allow wood and stone textures to lead. The result is a home balancing grandeur with intimacy—where spatial generosity and material warmth create lived-in elegance.
