Penthouse Living Above the City
Storeys_18 is a 3850 sq.ft penthouse apartment on the 18th floor in Ahmedabad, designed to maximize views, natural light, and spatial flow. The project required creating a sophisticated living environment that balances luxury finishes with understated elegance, offering panoramic city perspectives while maintaining warmth and residential comfort at height.
How to design a high-rise apartment that feels grounded and intimate despite its elevation?
Penthouse apartments often suffer from either cold hotel-like aesthetics or overdesigned opulence that sacrifices livability. At 3850 sq.ft on the top floor, the challenge was creating visual and material warmth while capitalizing on floor-to-ceiling windows and city views—ensuring the space felt like a home, not a showroom, while accommodating formal living, dining, multiple bedrooms, and service areas without spatial fragmentation.
Solution
The design employs a warm material palette anchored by extensive wood paneling: vertical grain cabinetry, wall cladding, and integrated storage create continuous surfaces that unify the apartment. Neutral tones (beiges, taupes, soft grays) allow wood warmth to dominate while maintaining visual calm. Floor-to-ceiling glazing frames city views as living artwork, with sheer curtains softening daylight without blocking vistas. Cove lighting and recessed ceiling panels introduce ambient glow, reducing reliance on harsh overhead fixtures. Large-format marble and stone flooring grounds spaces with natural texture. Open-plan living and dining maximize spatial generosity, while subtle level changes and material transitions define zones without walls. Bedrooms balance luxury—upholstered headboards, layered lighting—with residential softness. The result is a penthouse functioning as urban sanctuary—where elevation meets intimacy, and luxury reads as lived-in refinement.
